Quote of the Day
“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny” — Mahatma Gandhi

Maintaining Bowie: How Code Compliance Officers Keep Our City Beautiful
Bowie’s Code Compliance officers are responsible for ensuring that all properties adhere to the City’s high standards. Their mission is to work with residents and property owners to maintain well-kept neighborhoods and rental properties. These officers conduct routine inspections throughout the city and respond to complaints from the community. When they identify issues, they notify property owners and collaborate with them to resolve the problems.
To report any concerns about property maintenance or housing conditions, residents have several options: they can submit a Service Request, call the Code Compliance Office at 301-809-3008, or email the office directly. The goal is to maintain Bowie’s strong community standards through cooperation and proactive measures.
National Voter Registration Day: Voting in Maryland
National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrated every year to encourage eligible Americans to register to vote. It raises awareness about voter registration opportunities, ensuring that everyone has the chance to participate in upcoming elections. Observed on the fourth Tuesday of September, the day unites volunteers and organizations across the country to assist with voter registration efforts.
In Maryland, residents can register to vote online, by mail, or in person. To register online, visit the Maryland State Board of Elections website and complete the form. You can also print a voter registration application and mail it to your local election office. Additionally, voters may register in person at the Motor Vehicle Administration or during early voting.
Ensure your voice is heard—register to vote and participate in shaping your community and country.
The Story Behind the Iconic 'I Voted' Sticker
The iconic "I Voted" sticker has become a symbol of civic pride and participation in U.S. elections. First introduced in the 1980s, the sticker was designed to encourage voter turnout by offering a simple, yet effective, reward for fulfilling the democratic duty of voting. Election officials wanted a visible way for voters to show they had cast their ballots, inspiring others to do the same.
Over the years, the stickers have evolved in design and popularity, becoming a social media trend as voters proudly share their participation online. Many states now customize the stickers with unique artwork, reflecting local culture and history.
Today, the "I Voted" sticker is more than just a badge of honor—it serves as a reminder of the importance of voting and how each individual’s voice contributes to shaping the nation’s future.
