“What's done is done. What's gone is gone. One of life's lessons is always moving on. It’s okay to look back to see how far you’ve come but keep moving forward.” ― Roy T. Bennett

New Rules for Maryland Real Estate Commissions: Buyer and Seller

In 2024, Maryland’s real estate commission structure will see significant changes aimed at providing greater transparency for buyers and sellers. Typically, sellers cover both their agent’s and the buyer’s agent’s fees. However, starting August 17, 2024, buyers must sign a written agreement specifying their agent’s commission before touring homes. Buyers can still negotiate for the seller to cover this fee. Commission rates in Maryland vary based on factors like location, market trends, and the services provided. These fees are fully negotiable, allowing buyers and sellers to work with agents to find a commission structure that suits their needs.

Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 to October 15, celebrates the history and contributions of over 60 million Hispanic Americans with roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Established in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, it begins on September 15, marking the independence of five Latin American countries, followed by Mexico and Chile’s on September 16 and 18. This year’s theme is "Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together."

Members of Bowie State University’s Zeta Delta chapter of Delta Sigma Theta recently organized a back-to-school supply drive to support students at Rockledge Elementary School. On September 4-5, the chapter set up a donation table near the Harriet Tubman Residence Hall, where the campus community donated school supplies like backpacks, notebooks, tissues, and hand sanitizer. This annual tradition is part of the Zeta Delta chapter's ongoing effort to partner with local schools and help students succeed.

This year, the chapter collected 30 backpacks and 100 notebooks, as well as basic hygiene items, far surpassing previous years. The chapter also regularly engages with Rockledge students through activities like sharing their college experiences and performing step routines. The Deltas aim to inspire and give back to the next generation in meaningful ways.
