National Day of Encouragement: Spread Positivity in Bowie
Each year on September 12, the National Day of Encouragement reminds us to uplift and inspire the people around us. In Bowie, Maryland, where community spirit is strong, there are countless ways to spread positivity. Encouragement is a powerful force, and even small actions can have a lasting impact on someone's day.
Here are 10 ways you can encourage someone right here in Bowie:
1. Leave an uplifting note at one of Bowie’s local coffee shops, like PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans in Fairwood.
2. Compliment a stranger while shopping at the Bowie Town Center.
3. Buy a treat from a local bakery, like Dessert Junkie, and share it with a friend or neighbor.
4. Support a local artist by attending a community event at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts.
5. Write a kind review for a small business in Bowie, like Mom’s Organic Market.
6. Offer to run errands for an elderly neighbor in your community.
7. Invite a friend to go for a walk or picnic at Allen Pond Park and offer words of encouragement.
8. Volunteer at a local charity such as the Bowie Interfaith Pantry & Emergency Aid Fund, where your help can make a big difference.
9. Share positive feedback with a teacher, coach, or mentor in the Bowie community who has made an impact.
10. Pay it forward by buying a meal for someone at a local restaurant, like Milk & Honey Southern Inspired Kitchen or Rip’s Country Inn.
Small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect, lifting spirits and strengthening the bonds within our community. Take time on this special day to encourage those around you in Bowie!

Make a Difference Today: Donate to Goodwill in Bowie

Goodwill at 3871 Evergreen Parkway in Bowie is more than just a donation center—it's a community cornerstone where generosity transforms lives. By donating gently used items, you help fund vital programs that provide job training, employment services, and essential resources for individuals looking to improve their circumstances.
Goodwill accepts a variety of items in good condition, including clothing, shoes, accessories, household goods, furniture, and working electronics. These donations are sold in stores, with proceeds going directly to supporting those in need. Every item donated helps create opportunities for someone striving for a better future.
However, not all items can be accepted. Large appliances, hazardous materials (like paint or chemicals), mattresses, and baby items such as cribs or car seats are restricted due to safety regulations. By donating thoughtfully, you ensure that your contributions have the greatest impact, empowering Goodwill to continue making a difference in the Bowie community.
