Stray Pets, Barking Dogs, and Bite Cases: Bowie’s Pet Policies

We love our pets in Bowie. Here are some ways to address pets. If pets are running at large in your neighborhood, there are ways to address the issue.

Dogs

Contact Bowie Animal Control during regular business hours to have an officer dispatched. Provide details like the owner's address, the dog’s breed, size, and color. Anonymity is allowed, but providing contact information is helpful. You can also file an affidavit to issue an infraction to the owner, which may require attending a hearing.

Cats

For stray or nuisance cats, contact Animal Control for advice or have them deliver a nuisance letter to the owner. Feral cats are managed under city regulations.

Nuisance Barking

Report persistent barking to Animal Control, providing details about the dog and owner. You may need to file an affidavit if the issue continues.

Bite Cases and Dead Animals

Report any bites to police or Animal Control immediately. Dead wildlife will be removed by Animal Control.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Mr. John Thompson will present a lecture titled "History of Prince George's County: People, Places, and Politics." A long-time resident and Chairman of the Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission, Mr. Thompson will discuss the county’s history, highlighting its people, places, and political landscape over the centuries. The Commission he leads oversees more than 450 historic sites and properties across Prince George’s County.

FICO Partners with Morehouse, Bowie State, and Delaware State for Data Science Competition

Morehouse College has joined Bowie State University and Delaware State University for FICO's second annual Educational Analytics Challenge, aimed at promoting diversity in data science. This semester, students will work on developing real-time fraud detection models to combat financial transaction fraud using behavioral analytics and machine learning. The challenge encourages students to design systems that identify suspicious banking activities.

FICO’s program provides financial support to enhance HBCU analytics education, offering mentorship from industry experts and lectures from FICO's Chief Analytics Officer. The initiative also aims to inspire students to pursue careers in data science, a field in need of diverse perspectives. The program will expand to include more HBCUs in 2025.

PGCPS Partners with Private Sector to Deliver 8 New Schools in $800M Initiative

Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) has entered the second phase of its $800 million Blueprint Schools Project, designed to benefit over 8,000 students. In partnership with Progressive Education Partners, this public-private initiative will deliver eight new schools across 1.03 million square feet. The project will replace 14 outdated schools, offering improved facilities to support the county’s 131,000 students and 22,000 employees.

JLL, acting as the lead consultant and financial advisor, plays a key role in facilitating the development. Following the success of Phase I, which delivered six schools in under three years, Phase II continues the effort to enhance educational spaces while fostering community involvement through equity investment programs.

The schools selected for Phase II are:

  • Margaret Brent Elementary School

  • Hyattsville Elementary School

  • James Duckworth Regional School

  • Springhill Lake Elementary School

  • Brandywine K-8 School

  • Robert Frost K-8 School

  • Templeton Elementary School

  • Fairwood Elementary School
