Quote of the Day

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” — Maya Angelou

Labor Day in the U.S.: Celebrating Workers’ Achievements

Labor Day, observed on the first Monday of September, is a national holiday in the United States dedicated to honoring the contributions of American workers. Established in the late 19th century during the labor movement, it recognizes the economic and social achievements of workers who fought for fair wages, reasonable working hours, and safer working conditions.

Labor Day was first observed on September 5, 1882, in New York City and by 1894, it became a federal holiday. Labor Day also symbolizes the end of summer and is often celebrated with parades, barbecues, and community events.

Beyond the festivities, it serves as a reminder of the hard-fought gains workers have made over the years and the ongoing efforts to improve working conditions across the country.
