Drive Safely: School's Back in Session in Prince George's County

As students in Prince George’s County, head back to school, it’s crucial for drivers to be extra vigilant on the roads. With increased pedestrian traffic and school buses back in operation, following safety guidelines can help ensure the safety of students as they travel to and from school.

Here are some important safety tips for drivers:

1. Observe School Zone Speed Limits: Slow down and adhere to reduced speed limits in school zones. These limits are strictly enforced to protect children.

2. Stop for School Buses: Always stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and the stop arm extended. It’s illegal and dangerous to pass a stopped school bus.

3. Watch for Pedestrians: Be alert for children walking or biking to school, especially near crosswalks and intersections. Always yield to pedestrians.

4. Avoid Distractions: Put away your phone and focus entirely on driving, especially in areas with heavy student traffic.

5. Be Patient: With more congestion around schools, allow extra travel time and practice patience, especially during drop-off and pick-up hours.

By following these safety tips, drivers can help create a safer environment for students returning to school in Prince George’s County.
