New Stop Sign Cameras in Bowie: Safety Initiative Kicks Off August 26🛑

On August 26, the Bowie Police Department is set to launch a one-month demonstration program featuring Stop Sign Cameras at key intersections throughout the city. This initiative, coinciding with the start of the Prince George’s County school year, is part of a broader effort to enhance traffic safety, particularly around school zones.

The program will test advanced technology designed to reduce stop sign violations, ensuring safer streets for drivers, pedestrians, and students. Over the next month, these cameras will be operational at multiple intersections, monitoring compliance and gathering data to assess their effectiveness.

This proactive measure by the Bowie Police Department reflects a commitment to the community's safety, aiming to deter reckless driving and protect vulnerable road users. Residents are encouraged to be mindful of the new cameras and to always come to a full stop at stop signs, as the city evaluates this potential addition to its traffic safety toolkit. No citations will be issued during this demonstration project.
