Bowie is a vibrant community where we, as residents, enjoy a unique blend of suburban peace and urban accessibility. With a welcoming atmosphere, a prime location near Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis, and plenty of parks and recreational options, it’s easy to see why we love calling Bowie home. Explore the top reasons that make Bowie an exceptional place to live.
Residents of our city love living in this charming city for many reasons, but three stand out as the top favorites: its excellent location, strong sense of community, and abundant recreational opportunities.
1. Ideal Location: Bowie's location is one of its greatest assets. Positioned conveniently between Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Annapolis and Virginia, Bowie offers easy access to major cities while maintaining a peaceful suburban atmosphere. Residents enjoy convenient commutes to work, as well as the cultural and entertainment options in nearby urban centers, without having to deal with the hustle and bustle of city living. This makes Bowie a perfect blend of accessibility and tranquility.
2. Strong Community Spirit: Bowie is known for its tight-knit community and welcoming atmosphere. The city’s diverse neighborhoods foster a sense of belonging, and residents often engage in local events, festivals, and volunteer opportunities. Whether it's attending a farmers' market, participating in community clean-up days, or enjoying a concert at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts, there are plenty of ways for residents to connect and build lasting relationships.
3. Abundant Recreational Opportunities: Bowie boasts numerous parks, sports facilities, and recreational areas that cater to all ages. Allen Pond Park, with its scenic lake, playgrounds, and walking trails, is a local favorite The city also offers a variety of sports leagues, fitness classes, and cultural events that keep residents active and engaged year-round. These amenities make Bowie a lively and enjoyable place to call home.
Bowie is a great mix of location, community spirit, and recreational options, making it a highly desirable place to live - where we call home.
Bowie Rental License: What Property Owners Need to Know
The City of Bowie requires a rental license for all rental properties, including those where the owner or a family member resides. This applies to short-term rentals like Airbnb™, VRBO®, and Home Away®, as well as basement rentals, partial home rentals, in-law suites, group homes, assisted living facilities, and single-family homes, townhouses, and condos.
Rental License Fees:
- $110 annually for most rental types
- $60 per apartment in established complexes
- $50 application fee (waived if the application is submitted before the license expires)
Upon submitting a Rental License Application and paying the required fees, a "Temporary Certificate" is issued, and an inspection is scheduled. If the property meets Bowie City Code standards, the rental license is granted.
Properties with violations must correct them before a rental license is issued. Re-inspections are conducted to verify compliance, with a $50 fee for additional inspections. Non-compliance can lead to fines, license revocation, and legal action. Inspections are performed annually, Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
