A Look at the City's Fiscal Management

The Finance Department manages all city financial activities, ensuring accurate accounting and reporting. It provides essential data for assessing the city's financial position, forecasting future trends, and controlling revenue and expenditures. The department also prepares the Annual Budget, Capital Improvements Program, and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). The City Manager submits a proposed budget to the City Council in April, followed by public meetings for resident input. Additionally, the department publishes the "Bowie Budget in Brief," summarizing key budget details. The six-year Capital Improvements Program guides future capital projects and financing. The City Manager is required to submit an ACFR annually, adhering to state standards and accounting principles, with an independent audit mandated by the City Charter.

Prince George's County Public Schools New ParentVUE Portal

Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) has introduced the new ParentVUE Portal, replacing the older SchoolMax system. This updated platform offers a more intuitive and user-friendly interface for parents and guardians to stay connected with their child’s academic progress. ParentVUE provides real-time access to grades, assignments, attendance records, and school announcements. It also facilitates easy communication with teachers and school staff, ensuring that parents are kept in the loop about their child's education.

One of the key benefits of ParentVUE is its mobile app, which allows parents to access important information on-the-go. Additionally, the portal supports multiple languages, making it accessible to the diverse PGCPS community. By streamlining access to critical academic information and enhancing communication between home and school, ParentVUE empowers parents to take an active role in their child's education, ultimately contributing to better student outcomes.

Parents will easily be able to see the attendance, the grade book, grades, course history, calendar, messages and documents of their child. Utilizing this portal equips parents with the information need to have informed discussions with their student and teachers.
