Building Confidence and Resilience: The Bowie Teen Mentoring Program
Are you eager to give back to the Bowie community and positively impact a young person's life? Then consider becoming a Bowie Mentor.
The Bowie Teen Mentoring Program (TMP) connects adult volunteers with students from Bowie High School and 8th graders from Samuel Ogle and Benjamin Tasker Middle Schools. Mentors and students meet weekly during lunch, fostering voluntary and mutually beneficial relationships. These regular meetings cultivate positive connections that can significantly impact a teen’s high school journey, personal life, and the broader community. By participating in TMP, students receive stable, caring support from adult mentors, boosting their confidence and resilience. The program's success lies in the dedication and voluntary involvement of both mentors and mentees, creating a nurturing environment for personal growth and development.

Discovering Ancestry: Community Research Event on Family Roots

Are you passionate about descendant research? Join Karen Pearson, Collette (Spriggs) Harris, Ed Spriggs, Jordan Moore Jackson, Denise Barton, and Queen descendants as they team up to explore family connections within the African American community. Their research focuses on surnames like Spriggs, Stewart, Barton, Diggs, Weldon, Johnson, Duckett, Clark, Queen, and Norris, tracing roots back to White Marsh and Sacred Heart Church in Prince George’s County. Participants are encouraged to share any information they may have to help uncover more about their shared heritage.
This is a free event at the Marietta House Museum on August 7, 2024 from 12:00pm - 1:30pm
