Help Planning Our City’s Future - Take the Survey

The City of Bowie is developing a strategic plan in collaboration with the City Council, staff, and Zelos, LLC. They are seeking community input on the city's needs, priorities, and aspirations through a survey. The survey, which takes about 4 minutes to complete, will remain open until August 14, 2024. PGCPS Earns EVERFI Empowered Seal for Third Year Running

Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) has earned the EVERFI Empowered Seal for the third consecutive year, recognizing its commitment to financial literacy, social-emotional learning, wellness, and career education. This accolade is awarded to only 10% of U.S. school districts. Superintendent Millard House II emphasized the importance of holistic learning to prepare students for future opportunities. EVERFI’s programs equip students with essential skills, allowing over 5,000 students to earn certifications in financial literacy topics like banking and budgeting. Additionally, PGCPS prioritizes social-emotional learning with access to mental health clinicians and partnerships with universities for teacher training. A recent survey showed 75% of teachers feel confident in leading social-emotional learning lessons.

Bowie Local Sarah Martin Prepares for U.S. Women’s Futsal World Cup Journey

Sarah Martin, a resident of Bowie, MD, has been selected for the U.S. Women’s Futsal National Team’s first full training camp. Head coach Marcia Tafarel has called up 18 players after a year-and-a-half of talent identification, with the camp scheduled for July 28 to August 2 at the Darlington School in Rome, GA. This camp is part of U.S. Soccer's strategic goal to develop winning teams and prepare for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup next year in the Philippines.

"This first full U.S. Women’s Futsal National Team camp is a milestone for women’s futsal in the United States," Tafarel said. The 18-player squad includes representatives from nine states, with California and Maryland leading in selections. This initiative aims to promote women's futsal and inspire future generations of players.
