Stay Safe in Bowie’s Heat: 5 Essential Tips for 100-Degree Days
With temperatures in Bowie, Maryland expected to reach 100 degrees, it’s essential to protect yourself and your loved ones from excessive heat. Here are five crucial tips:
1. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid beverages with alcohol and caffeine as they can lead to dehydration.
2. Wear Suitable Clothing: Opt for lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothes. A wide-brimmed hat and UV-protection sunglasses can shield you from direct sunlight.
3. Seek Cool Environments: Spend time in air-conditioned spaces such as malls, libraries, or community centers. If your home lacks air conditioning, use fans and keep curtains closed to block out heat.
4. Adjust Outdoor Activities: Schedule outdoor activities for early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Take frequent breaks in shaded or cool areas if you must be outside.
5. Use Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 on exposed skin. Reapply every two hours, or more often if swimming or sweating.
Following these tips can help prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure safety during extreme temperatures in Bowie.
