MD 197 Improvement Project Launched by Maryland SHA

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA) has launched an improvement project for MD 197 (Collington Road) between Kenhill Drive and MD 450 (Annapolis Road), identified as project PG6912116. This initiative aims to upgrade and widen the existing road to a multilane divided highway over a 1.4-mile stretch. The project focuses on enhancing traffic flow, improving safety, and accommodating future growth in the area.

The upgraded MD 197 will feature additional lanes, improved intersections, and enhanced pedestrian and cyclist facilities. The construction is expected to reduce congestion, provide a smoother commute, and boost the overall infrastructure quality. The SHA’s project reflects a commitment to modernizing transportation networks and supporting local economic development.

Residents and commuters can anticipate some construction-related disruptions, but the long-term benefits of a safer and more efficient roadway are significant. Community engagement and updates will be provided throughout the project's duration to keep the public informed.

Bowie Welcomes New Sheetz Store with Grand Opening and Generous Donations

Prince George’s County celebrated the opening of its first Sheetz store on Thursday. Located at 16240 Marketplace Blvd. off Crain Highway in Bowie, the gas station and convenience store hosted a grand opening at 9 a.m. Customers enjoyed free coffee or soda all day, and one lucky visitor won a year's worth of Sheetz, valued at $2,500. Additionally, Sheetz donated $2,500 to the Capital Area Food Bank and $2,500 to the Special Olympics of Maryland in honor of the new store's launch.
