Deputy Chief Jefferson participated in the Build-A-Bike event sponsored by the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (N.O.B.L.E). This event brought together law enforcement and community members to assemble bicycles for local children. Deputy Chief Jefferson, alongside other volunteers, worked diligently to ensure each bike was built safely and correctly. The event not only provided children with new bicycles but also fostered positive interactions between the police and the community. Jefferson emphasized the importance of such initiatives in building trust and strengthening relationships. The successful event highlighted the commitment of N.O.B.L.E and local law enforcement to community engagement and support, leaving a lasting positive impact on everyone involved.

Crime Breakdown: Bowie Police Department’s Monthly Reports

The Bowie Police Department issues monthly reports detailing the number and types of crimes they have responded to. These reports provide a comprehensive overview of criminal activity within the city, breaking down incidents by the one hundred block. This report helps residents stay informed about the safety of their neighborhoods what types of crimes are occurring. The Bowie Police Department aims to keep the public engaged and aware, promoting a collaborative effort in maintaining a secure and safe community.

Maryland Introduces Online Tool to Combat Rising Hate Crimes

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has launched a new online portal, nohomeforhate.md.gov, to help victims of hate crimes and bias incidents in Maryland report these events after calling 911. This initiative, part of his strategy to combat hate statewide, offers a safe and anonymous way for residents to report incidents and access resources. In 2022, 465 hate crimes and bias incidents were reported in Maryland, a significant increase from previous years.

The portal, developed with the Maryland Department of Information Technology and supported by a Department of Justice grant, features a reporting form available in 11 languages. It aims to track incidents, identify trends, and improve the state's response to hate crimes. The site also provides information about the Maryland Commission on Hate Crime Response and Prevention, chaired by Attorney General Brown, and hosts resources for victims.

Additionally, the office has introduced a tutorial video to guide users through the reporting process and continues to offer a hate crimes hotline at 1-866-481-8361.
