Block Party Planning: What Bowie Residents Need to Know

Hosting a block party in Bowie is a fantastic way to foster community spirit and get to know your neighbors. To ensure your event goes smoothly, it's essential to secure a Neighborhood Block Party Permit from the City of Bowie. This permit helps the city manage street closures and ensure safety for all attendees.

To apply, residents must submit a permit application at least 30 days before the event. The application requires details about the event, including the location, date, time, and expected attendance. Additionally, you'll need signatures from at least 60% of the affected households to show community support.

The permit process ensures that emergency services are aware of the event and can make necessary arrangements. Bowie encourages residents to celebrate safely and responsibly, making block parties a delightful experience for everyone.

MAPGA Celebrates Junior Golfers with $91,000 in Scholarships for 2024

The Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA of America (MAPGA) has announced the recipients of its 2024 Junior Golf Scholarship program. Seven student-athletes from the MAPGA’s Junior Golf Tour have been awarded scholarships totaling $91,000 to support their academic goals. Jon Guhl, Executive Director of the MAPGA, expressed pride in these deserving recipients and highlighted the success of the Junior Tour in promoting growth and sportsmanship. The MAPGA annually engages over 2,500 junior golfers through various tournament programs, teaching them values such as integrity and sportsmanship alongside competitive skills.

A donation by Tina and Wally Uihlein established the Tony Marlowe Junior Scholarship, honoring Tina’s late father, Tony Marlowe, a MAPGA Hall of Famer. This scholarship awards $10,000 annually for four years to junior golfers for academics, extracurriculars, and etiquette. Congratulations to two 2024 recipients from Bowie.

Xavier Francois: Attending the University of Maryland, Xavier excelled in academics, Cyber X team, MIT hackathon, MAPGA Junior Tour, and volunteered 120+ hours with First Tee.

Andrew Christiansen: A multi-sport athlete, Andrew captained hockey and golf teams, held multiple jobs, and achieved First Sergeant in Junior ROTC.
