Speed Camera Shifts in Bowie: What Drivers Need to Know

Starting July 1, 2024, the Bowie Police Department will relocate several of the city’s speed cameras under the Safe Speed Camera Program. Cameras from Penn Manor Lane and Kendale Lane will be moved to Excalibur Road, while the speed camera from Old Chapel will be placed on Pointer Ridge Drive. A warning period for the new cameras on Excalibur Road will last until August 1, 2024, after which civil citations will be issued. More details can be found on the City of Bowie's website: www.cityofbowie.org/speedcameras.

The Safe Speed Program aims to reduce speeding and motor vehicle accidents, ensuring pedestrian and bicyclist safety. This initiative focuses on changing driving behavior rather than generating revenue. As drivers adjust to speed limits, the number of citations is expected to decrease. Below are the new speed camera locations starting July 1st.

What restaurant should go in place of On the Border?

The On the Border on Heritage Boulevard has been closed for some time. It is currently next to the newly built Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers at 16401 Heritage Boulevard which has a projected open date in mid-July.

Now is an exciting opportunity for a fresh, unique dining spot in our community! How about a vibrant Asian fusion restaurant offering delightful sushi, ramen, and bubble tea? Or perhaps a trendy farm-to-table eatery showcasing locally sourced ingredients and innovative dishes? Another idea is a Mediterranean oasis with delicious falafel, shawarma, and fresh salads that transport your taste buds to a distant land.

For dessert lovers, imagine a chic dessert café featuring gourmet pastries, artisanal ice creams, and specialty coffees. Maybe even a cozy vegan bistro with creative plant-based dishes could also become a local favorite, offering nutritious and delicious meals for all.

Reply back and let me know what restaurant would you like to see in place of the old On the Border.

Answer to Name the Bowie Art

"Ham's Shadow is the City of Bowie's inaugural public art piece. The art is a metal sculpture of a horse and its shadow, located in Sussex Park on Route 450, opposite Bowie High School. Commissioned by the Arts Committee in 2001 and completed in 2002, it was crafted by local artist Donna McCullough. The sculpture is inspired by McCullough's childhood visits to Bowie Race Track with her grandfather, honoring a horse named Ham Sandwich that she admired there.
