From Vision to Tradition: The Evolution of Mother's Day Celebrations

Mother's Day, a celebration that honors the nurturing spirit of motherhood, began in ancient times with festivals dedicated to mother goddesses. However, its modern inception can be traced back to the early 20th century, thanks to the efforts of Anna Jarvis. Moved by her own mother's dedication, Jarvis campaigned for a day to honor mothers and their selfless love. Her hard work paid off when in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially designated the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day in the United States.

Since then, Mother's Day has transcended borders, becoming a global tribute to maternal figures. It serves as a poignant reminder to cherish and appreciate the women who shape our lives with their unconditional love, sacrifices, and unwavering support. So, this Mother's Day, let's celebrate the remarkable mothers in our lives and express our gratitude for their boundless love and guidance.

Earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours During The Weed Warrior Workday

Weed Warrior workdays invite students to gain Student Service Learning (SSL) hours by combating invasive species in the local area. Participants will collaborate with the Green Team Natural Resources subgroup to eradicate English Ivy from the trees at Whitemarsh Park. The event primarily welcomes individuals aged 16 and above, with restrictions on the use of large hand tools for those under 16. Additionally, children under 14 require direct parental supervision throughout the event. Participation is capped at 30 individuals - register in advance.

Movie Night at Belair Mansion - Saturday, May 11th

Grab your spidey senses and swing by Belair Mansion for a web-tastic movie night under the stars! On Saturday, May 11 from 8:30 PM - 10:00 PM, the enchanting grounds will transform into a cinematic wonderland as we screen "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse" after dusk.
