Stop Sign Cameras: A First in Maryland's Traffic Enforcement

In a pioneering move for traffic safety, the town of The Town of Cottage City in Prince George's County, has become the state’s first to install stop sign cameras. This initiative, launched to curb the rising incidents of stop sign violations, aims to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce accidents at intersections. The innovative camera system automatically records vehicles that fail to make a complete stop at designated stop signs. Violators will receive a citation in the mail, similar to the process for red light cameras. Cottage City officials believe this measure will serve as a deterrent and foster a culture of compliance among drivers. The town's decision reflects a proactive approach to leveraging technology for community safety.

Time will tell if Stop Sign cameras come to Bowie to help keep Bowie safe.
