An upcoming event focused on mental health and substance abuse awareness will take place on April 29, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Kenhill Center multipurpose room. The event will feature the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ "Talk. They Hear You."® Campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the dangers of underage drinking and drug use. The campaign also provides parents with tools and information necessary to prevent and address these issues among youth.

The presentation will additionally cover prevalent mental health issues affecting young people, and the resources available to them and their families. Middle and high school students, along with their parents, are encouraged to attend this educational session.

Heads Up, Parents: School Bell Changes Ahead in Prince George's County

In the 2024-2025 academic year, Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) will standardize school bell times across the district. This change aims to streamline school bus transportation and improve efficiency by reducing the current thirteen morning start times and seventeen dismissal times to just three standardized start times and six dismissal times. This revision ensures that 84% of schools will see minimal disruption, with 62% experiencing a shift of 15 minutes or less and only 16% undergoing a change of 16 to 45 minutes. The initiative is designed to optimize bus routes, enhance punctuality, and make school schedules more predictable for families. This move is expected to ease the daily logistics for students, parents, and staff, contributing to a smoother operation of school activities.
