Swing into Spring: Your Guide to Tennis in Bowie 🎾
In the picturesque city of Bowie, Maryland, tennis enthusiasts find a perfect blend of community spirit and active living. With several courts scattered across the city, both beginners and seasoned players have ample opportunity to enjoy the game. Here’s a guide to five popular tennis courts where locals can serve, volley, and enjoy the beautiful Maryland weather.
1. Foxhill Community Park Tennis Courts - Located at 5001 Collington Road, this facility offers four public tennis courts that are non-lighted, making it an ideal spot for daytime matches.
2. Belair Bath & Tennis Club - Situated at the intersection of Belair Drive and Tulip Grove Drive, this club features eight tennis courts, with four equipped for night play thanks to lighting. It’s a great place for those who enjoy late evening games.
3. Somerset Neighborhood Park Tennis Courts - At 12313 Stonehaven Ln, this park provides two public tennis courts. These courts are not lighted, so plan your games for the daytime.
4. Meadowbrook Neighborhood Park Tennis Courts - You can find this small but welcoming facility at 3531 Moylan Dr, offering two additional public tennis courts for local play, also without lighting.
5. Whitehall Pool and Tennis Club - A private membership club located at 7601 Woodmore Rd, offering a variety of amenities including tennis courts. It’s a fantastic option for those looking for a more exclusive environment to play tennis.
Each of these venues not only provides the facilities needed for a good tennis match but also fosters a sense of community among players. Whether you're looking to improve your game, compete, or just have fun, Bowie's tennis courts are a great place to start. So grab your racket, some balls, and maybe a few friends, and hit the courts to enjoy one of the most cherished sports in the area!

Bowie Family Rallies for Heart Health with Strides for Strong Hearts Event
Heart disease remains a leading cause of death among African Americans, significantly affecting both men and women across the United States. In efforts to combat these alarming statistics, which reveal African Americans are 30% more likely to die from heart disease compared to their White peers, a special community event has been organized. The walk/run event, named "Strides for Strong Hearts," aims to raise awareness and support initiatives for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart disease within the African American community.
This cause is deeply personal for the family of Deron Edwards, who tragically lost his life to a heart attack at just 41 years old. Despite having several risk factors, Deron's condition went undiagnosed until it was tragically too late. This year, as we mark a decade since his passing, the event also serves to honor Deron's memory and the impact he had on those around him.
The community is invited to join the commemorative event on April 20th, 2024. The registration fee is set at $25, with all proceeds benefiting the Black Heart Association and Premature Widows Ministries, LLC. Participants who contribute $50 or more will receive a special commemorative T-shirt. The event promises to be a meaningful gathering, reinforcing the importance of heart health awareness.
