Tail-Wagging Tales Await: How to Welcome Your New Puppy with Open Paws

Welcoming a new puppy into your home is like opening a book filled with blank pages, ready to be filled with tales of tail wags, playful barks, and cuddly moments. If you’ve embraced this furry bundle of joy for National Puppy Day, here’s how to ensure your story is a happy one.

First, create a cozy nook, a safe haven where your puppy can dream of chasing squirrels. Nutrition is key; opt for high-quality puppy food that’s like a hug for their tummies. Potty training requires patience and treats - celebrate every outdoor success like it’s a major milestone.

Socialization is the bridge to a well-behaved adult dog; introduce them to friendly faces, both human and canine.

Finally, love and consistency are your magic wands; they transform a tiny pup into a loyal, fearless friend. Caring for a puppy is an adventure, a journey of growth for both of you. Start this chapter with love, patience, and a sprinkle of fun, and watch your puppy’s personality blossom.

Commentary: A road map for confronting the climate crisis in MD.

Crystal Harden-Lindsey, Vice President of Community Impact at the Baltimore Community Foundation, stresses the urgency of addressing the climate crisis, emphasizing its current impact on communities, the economy, and national security. Harden-Lindsey highlights the importance of Governor Wes Moore's potential role in taking action, particularly regarding a new rule issued by the Biden administration that mandates measuring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the National Highway System.

She urges Governor Moore to disclose plans for implementing this rule in the state, emphasizing that transparency is crucial for accountability. The transportation sector is identified as the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S., making it imperative for states to set targets for emission reduction.

Harden-Lindsey notes that federal funding is available for states to reduce emissions, aligning with the goals of the bipartisan infrastructure law. She warns of potential challenges from Big Oil and Republicans in opposing the rule and emphasizes the benefits of implementing it, including cleaner air, economic opportunities, and improved public health, especially in communities of color.

Drawing on examples from states like California and Colorado, Harden-Lindsey expresses hope that the Moore administration will follow suit, leading the state in tackling the climate crisis effectively.
