The Bowie Budget Process

The annual Bowie budget process is a structured, multi-phase effort that engages both city staff and the community to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with local needs and priorities. Starting in December and extending through March, city staff convenes to draft the initial budget proposal. This phase incorporates input from various sources, including master plans, council policy statements, long-range studies, requests from user groups, and recommendations from citizen committees.

From April through May, the process opens up to include public participation through two public hearings designed to gather community feedback. Additionally, five budget work-sessions are held during this period, where the City Manager presents the budget to the council for review and discussion.

The culmination of this meticulous process occurs in May when the council votes to adopt the budget. This adopted budget then goes into effect on July 1st and remains active until June 30th of the following year, guiding the city's financial decisions and priorities over the 12-month period.

Parent Teacher Conferences – 2-Hr. Delayed Opening for Students

On February 20, 2024, Prince George's County, Maryland, public schools are holding parent-teacher conferences, serving as crucial forums for communication and collaboration between educators and families. These conferences provide parents with insights into their child's academic progress and classroom dynamics, allowing for open discussions with teachers about concerns and strategies for improvement. Likewise, teachers value these conferences as opportunities to strengthen partnerships with parents. Beyond academics, these conferences emphasize community building and teamwork to support student success.

Contact your child’s teacher for scheduling.
