Maryland Schools Partner with Hazel Health for Groundbreaking Telehealth Services
In a significant move towards enhancing student health and well-being, Prince Georgeās County Public Schools have embarked on a collaborative venture with Hazel Health. This initiative, launched in October, introduced free telehealth services aimed at students. The program is primarily designed to offer crucial mental health and urgent medical care services, with a focus on accessibility through telehealth platforms located in school health rooms.
The implementation of this program initially targets middle schools and academies, with a strategic plan to gradually encompass high schools and ultimately elementary schools. One of the standout features of Hazel Health is its provision of immediate care. Moreover, it plays a pivotal role in guiding families through the healthcare landscape, an invaluable service in regions where access to primary healthcare is scarce.
Bowie Balances Tradition and Progress in Freeway Airport Redevelopment Plan

In Bowie, Maryland, a remarkable transformation is taking shape at the historic Freeway Airport. As we move into 2024, this well-known aviation landmark is transitioning into a bustling residential area, marking a significant change in the city's landscape.
The Maryland Supreme Court recently made a decisive intervention in this transformation. By a narrow 4-3 majority, the court ruled in favor of the developers, overturning a previous court's decision. This move, addressing safety concerns and public interest, marks a critical step in adapting to the changing urban environment.
St. John Properties has unveiled ambitious plans for the 131-acre Freeway Airport site. The new residential community will feature 509 homes, significantly increasing the density to 4.23 units per acre from the previous one-unit-per-two-acres rule. The development includes a mix of 416 townhouses and 93 single-family homes, aiming to create a family-friendly and community-focused atmosphere.
Despite the excitement, the project has stirred some controversy among Bowie's officials and residents, especially regarding potential traffic increases on Church Road. This debate reflects the city's struggle to balance its historical roots with a growing suburban-urban identity.
The planning commission staff has conditionally recommended the project, pending detailed analyses on noise, environmental impact, and other factors. A forthcoming planning board hearing will further scrutinize these aspects to ensure the development meets community standards and regulatory requirements.
Freeway Airport, a cornerstone of Bowie since the mid-20th century, has long been a focal point for local aviators and the community. This redevelopment signifies a new era for Bowie, blending its historical significance with contemporary urban living.
In summary, the redevelopment of Freeway Airport into a residential community marks a pivotal moment for Bowie, Maryland. This project aims to harmonize the city's historic charm with modern living, setting the stage for a future where tradition and progress coexist.
What are your thoughts on the current plans for the Freeway Airport?
Experience the Charm of Live Theater at Bowie's Historic Playhouse

The Bowie Playhouse in Whitemarsh Park, Maryland, epitomizes the fusion of community spirit and theatrical brilliance. Since its establishment in 1976, this 150-seat indoor theater has become a vital part of Bowie's cultural scene. The Playhouse's significant 2008 renovation further enhanced its role as a key cultural hub in the city.
This theater not only enriches the city's cultural offerings but also mirrors Bowie's rich history, which dates back to the late 19th century and its development around the Baltimore & Potomac Railroad station. The Playhouse, a relatively newer addition, continues the city's dedication to arts and community involvement.
Managed by the City of Bowie and fully ADA accessible, the Playhouse showcases an array of theatrical works throughout the year, produced by independent companies. These groups, notably the Bowie Community Theater and 2nd Star Productions, have garnered multiple awards, testifying to the high-quality performances the Playhouse hosts.
With its cozy 150-seat capacity, the Playhouse offers an engaging and intimate viewing experience. The 2008 renovation revitalized not just the facilities but also the theater's atmosphere, cementing its status as a cherished destination for both locals and tourists.T
The Bowie Community Theater, promising an enthralling narrative and exceptional acting coming, from February 9 to March 2, 2024, 2nd Star Productions will present "Urinetown the Musical," a satirical and musically vibrant performance.
In essence, the Bowie Playhouse is more than just a venue; it's a lively center for art and community, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of Bowie, Maryland. It offers a unique blend of history, culture, and entertainment, making it a must-visit destination for theater lovers and those exploring the local arts scene.
