Got a Problem in Bowie? Here’s Who to Contact

Last week in the Bowie Pulse, most voters said that “Sometimes” or “Most” of the time they know who to contact if they have a city related problem. We heard you and are providing the following information so that Bowie Insider readers know who to contact in the City of Bowie when you have several types of issues.

Pothole? Missed trash collection? Property concern? Broken streetlight? Knowing who to contact can help get a Bowie problem to the right department faster.

The City of Bowie offers an online Request a Service/Ask a Question system for many everyday concerns. Residents can also report property maintenance and possible code violations to Code Compliance at 301-809-3008. Trash, recycling, streets, water and sewer-related City services are generally handled through Public Works at 301-809-2344.

For non-emergency police matters, including theft, vandalism and noise complaints, call 240-544-5700, available 24 hours a day. Always call 911 for emergencies.

Bowie Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

From September 15 through October 15, Bowie joins communities nationwide in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizing the history, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

The observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was expanded to a month-long celebration in 1988. September 15 holds special significance as the independence anniversary of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16, followed by Chile on September 18.

This year’s theme, “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together,” recognizes the leadership, creativity, service, and determination that continue to strengthen communities and shape the future.

Here in Bowie, Hispanic Heritage Month offers an opportunity to learn, celebrate, and appreciate the cultures that contribute to our diverse community.
