Perfect Weather to Hit Bowie’s Trails

Have you felt it? The weather is starting to give us little hints that fall is on the way—making this the perfect time to get outside and explore Bowie on foot or by bike.

Bowie has miles of trails winding through parks, neighborhoods and natural areas. You can enjoy familiar favorites around Allen Pond, explore the hiking and biking trails at Whitemarsh Park, or discover routes you may have driven past countless times without realizing they were there.

Wondering where to start? Pull up the City of Bowie’s 2025 Bike Map, also listed as the Map of Existing Public Trails. It’s an easy way to see how trails stretch across Bowie and choose a new route for your next outdoor adventure.

Bowie Insider Challenge: Grab a friend, your walking shoes—or your bike—and pick one Bowie trail you’ve never explored. You might discover a new favorite right in your own backyard!

Bowie Women, Here’s Your Friendship Challenge

September is Women’s Friendship Month—a perfect reminder to celebrate the women who make life a little lighter, funnier, and better.

Here in Bowie, friendship can look like morning walks at Allen Pond, catching up over coffee, volunteering together, celebrating milestones, or simply sending that perfectly timed ā€œAre you okay?ā€ or ā€œHow was your dayā€ text.

This month, don’t wait for a birthday or special occasion to tell a friend what she means to you. Give her her flowers now. Celebrate the friend who showed up during the hard seasons, cheered for your wins, listened without judgment, made you laugh, or simply stayed.

The Bowie Insider Friendship Challenge: Choose one girlfriend this week and tell her exactly why you appreciate her. Send the text. Make the call. Buy the flowers. Schedule the lunch.

Sometimes the best celebration is simply saying, ā€œI’m glad you’re my friend.ā€

BowiePulseā„¢ Results

We ask one meaningful question about life here in Bowie. Sometimes it'll be fun. Sometimes it'll be serious. But it will always reflect what matters most to the people who live here.

The question of the week was: What would YOU add to Bowie Town Center?

Hands down first place went to my favorite - The Indoor Farmers/Artisan Market: Year-round home for local produce, baked goods, specialty foods, handmade products.

Community Feedback:

  • Additional security.

  • Add free or low-cost community gathering space for groups like book clubs, writers' groups, mutual aid organizations, clubs, and citizens' organizations. We desperately need places to meet other than someone's living room. ***Love this - Any ideas to bring this to life?***

  • We tend to travel either into Washington DC, or Northern VA to experience such. **** Always nice not to have to commute downtown, yes to local. ***

Second place went to Upscale dining, rooftop restaurant, locally owned restaurant

Third place tied with ā€œCulinary Experience: Cooking classes, wine-pairing dinners, date nights & visiting-chef experiencesā€

Community Feedback:

  • Locally owned restaurants! …I miss TJ Elliots …We support small business. ***Love to keep it in Bowie when we can***

  • Amish food market also Amish furniture and crafts. Also Bowie should have flags that honor military personnel from Bowie with their picture on it. Honor our heroes! ***Double yes***

and Adult Social Club: Lounge instead of a club, live music, cocktails, small plates, trivia.

  • For an older, mature crowd. …Old style club like back in the day. Like Half Note used to be or Martini’s in southern MD years ago. Just fun, good music, good food, relaxed atmosphere- do not have to dress up. *** Half Note was a really nice vibe!ā€ ***

  • Would like local farmers market and artisan market there should be space to do both. Like the have in Savage Mills in Laurel. ***Would love to have this type of set up in Bowie.***
