Save the Date: Arts on the Ave Is Coming to Old Bowie

Credit: City of Bowie
Get ready for a celebration of art, creativity, and community in the heart of Old Bowie! Old Bowie Arts on the Ave returns Saturday, October 3, from 11:00am to 3:00pm., bringing Chestnut Avenue to life with local artists, makers, food vendors, entertainment, interactive activities, and family-friendly fun.
The festival celebrates Old Bowie’s unique character while giving residents an opportunity to discover local talent and support small businesses.
Calling Local Artists & Makers
Vendor applications are now open for the event’s juried arts market. The City is seeking fine artisans and skilled makers offering original handcrafted work, including pottery, stained glass, fine art, woodworking, fiber arts, and other creative pieces.
Applications are due September 1, so interested artists should apply soon.
Whether you come to shop, enjoy the entertainment, or explore Old Bowie, Arts on the Ave is a great way to celebrate creativity and community.
Bowie Trash Day Alert: The Early Start Is Back Sept. 4
Bowie residents, it’s time to reset those curbside reminders! Beginning September 4, trash and recycling collection will return to its regular 7:00am. start time.
Residents should place all trash cans, recycling bins, and approved receptacles at the curb before 7 a.m. on their scheduled collection day to make sure nothing gets missed.
If you’ve gotten used to the summer collection schedule, now is a good time to adjust your routine. Consider putting bins out the night before to avoid an early-morning trip to the curb.
BowiePulse™ Results
We ask one meaningful question about life here in Bowie. Sometimes it'll be fun. Sometimes it'll be serious. But it will always reflect what matters most to the people who live here.
The question of the week was:
What's one small thing about living in Bowie that is harder to figure out than it should be? It was a tie:
‘Finding reliable recommendations for local businesses’ and ‘Understanding city services and programs.’
Third place was Knowing who to contact for city-related issues.
BowiePulse™ Question of the Week
Have a question you’d love to hear Bowie weigh in on? Hit reply and send it to the Bowie Insider! Your question could become an upcoming BowiePulse Question of the Week, where we’ll ask local residents to weigh in and share the results.
What’s something you’ve always wondered: “ I the only Bowie resident who thinks this?” Send us your question. Your neighbors may be wondering the exact same thing.
We'll choose reader submissions and publish the results.

More Than Athletes: 41 Bowie State Bulldogs Earn Academic Honors
Bowie State University is celebrating 41 Bulldog student-athletes who are proving that excellence happens both in competition and in the classroom.
The students earned the prestigious Division II Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) Academic Achievement Award, recognizing student-athletes who successfully balance college athletics with strong academic performance.
To qualify, students must maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, complete two years of college coursework, and participate on an intercollegiate team during their final academic year. Even more impressive, 15 Bowie State student-athletes from six different teams earned a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Balancing practices, competitions, travel, classes, assignments, and exams is no easy task. For these Bulldogs, the honor reflects the discipline, determination, and time management required to succeed as both students and athletes.
Their achievement also highlights the coaches, professors, advisors, teammates, friends, and families who support them along the way.
Congratulations to these 41 Bulldogs for making Bowie State proud—in the classroom and in competition.
The professional secret to dough is out
Ever tried to make dough in your regular mixer?
The results aren’t pretty: Clumpy texture. Stodgy bread. Overheated motors.
So, how do the pros get it right?
Introducing Ooni Halo Core Spiral Mixer.
Its secret is the same dough-making technology that professional bakers have used for decades.
Until now, most spiral mixers have been industrial-sized machines with industrial-sized price tags.
They also only made dough. And that gets a no from us.
To put the same professional tech into the hands of home bakers, we rebuilt the spiral mixer — creating a mighty little machine that can whip, beat and knead to professional high standards.
