Bowie Speaks: Community Conversation

Credit: City of Bowie

The City of Bowie Diversity Committee continues its work to strengthen our community by creating opportunities for residents to learn from one another and engage in meaningful conversations.

One of those opportunities is the #BowieSpeaks series, which brings together residents, City leaders, business owners, students, and others who live and work in Bowie for open, respectful discussions about issues that matter to our community.

Join the next #BowieSpeaks – Community Conversation will take place on Thursday, July 30, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at Bowie City Hall. This session, "Building Inclusive Communities: Celebrating Differences and Challenging Bias," will explore how embracing diversity, encouraging understanding, and recognizing unconscious bias can help create a stronger, more welcoming Bowie. Participants will have the chance to share perspectives, hear from others, and take part in a thoughtful conversation focused on building a community where everyone feels respected, included, and valued.

BowiePulse™ Results

We ask one meaningful question about life here in Bowie. Sometimes it'll be fun. Sometimes it'll be serious. But it will always reflect what matters most to the people who live here.

The question of the week was:

What makes you most proud to call Bowie home?

Safety in our city is the number one reason that makes you most proud to call Bowie home, closely followed by convenient location then a family friendly atmosphere.

City of Bowie Teen Mentoring Program

Credit: City of Bowie

Since 2002, the City of Bowie Youth & Family Services Teen Mentor Program has been making a lasting difference in the lives of Bowie High School students. For more than two decades, dedicated volunteer mentors have contributed countless hours to helping young people become the best version of themselves.

Through weekly one-on-one meetings, mentors build positive, trusting relationships with their mentees—connections that have the potential to change the course of a teen's high school experience, shape their future, and strengthen the community as a whole.

By providing students with a stable, caring, and supportive relationship with a trusted adult, the Teen Mentor Program helps foster greater self-confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of belonging. These meaningful relationships empower students to overcome challenges, recognize their strengths, and build the skills they need to thrive both in school and beyond.

As we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, we are looking for compassionate adults ready to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people. Just one hour a week can help a student build confidence, navigate challenges, and realize their full potential. If you're ready to inspire, encourage, and help shape the next generation of leaders, we invite you to become a volunteer mentor. Together, we can continue creating brighter futures—one relationship at a time. If this is you, contact Amanda Pumphrey [email protected]
