Stay Cool This Fourth of July: 5 Fun Family Activities to Enjoy Indoors
With temperatures expected to climb into the upper 90s this Independence Day, staying indoors may be the smartest way to celebrate. Fortunately, you don't have to miss out on the fun! Here are five family-friendly ways to enjoy the holiday while staying cool.
🍓 Create a Red, White & Blue Snack Board
Fill a platter with strawberries, blueberries, cheese cubes, crackers, yogurt-covered pretzels, and other colorful treats. Invite everyone to help arrange the board before gathering around to enjoy it together.
🎲 Host a Family Game Olympics
Turn classic games into friendly competitions with rounds of Uno, Jenga, dominoes, Pictionary, or scavenger hunts around the house. Keep score and award simple prizes like first choice of dessert or a homemade ribbon.
📸 Create a Family Photo Booth
Set up a corner with festive decorations, hats, flags, sunglasses, and fun props. Use your phone or camera to snap family photos, silly selfies, and group pictures you'll enjoy looking back on for years to come.
🍨 Build an Ice Cream Sundae Bar – Set out toppings and let everyone create their dream dessert. Bonus points for the most patriotic creation!
🎤 Host a Family Talent Show
Turn your home into a stage! Invite family members to sing, dance, tell jokes, perform magic tricks, read a favorite poem, or play an instrument. Keep it lighthearted and celebrate everyone's unique talents with plenty of applause.
No matter how hot it gets outside, the best Fourth of July memories are made by spending time together. Stay hydrated, check on neighbors and loved ones, and have a safe, happy, and cool Independence Day!

How Long Will Your Fourth of July Leftovers Last?
The fireworks may be over, but the refrigerator is probably full! From burgers and hot dogs to potato salad, baked beans, and watermelon, many of us look forward to enjoying July 4th leftovers for days. But here's a fun question: How long do you keep eating them? One day? Three days? Until they're gone?
Food safety experts recommend refrigerating leftovers within two hours of serving (or within one hour if temperatures were above 90°F). Most cooked meats, side dishes, and casseroles are best enjoyed within 3 to 4 days when stored properly in the refrigerator. If you're not planning to eat them by then, freeze them for later. When in doubt, remember the golden rule: If it looks questionable, smells odd, or you're simply unsure, throw it out.
What's your leftover strategy? Are you team "gone by Sunday" or team "it still looks good next week"? Let us know!
