Green Living in Bowie: Small Changes Make a Big Difference

Bowie residents, we can help keep our community beautiful by making simple, environmentally friendly choices at home and at work. Green living means reducing energy and water use, recycling whenever possible, using reusable bags and bottles, and choosing energy-efficient appliances and lighting. These everyday habits help conserve natural resources, reduce waste, lower utility bills, and create healthier homes and neighborhoods.
At work, small actions like printing less, recycling office materials, turning off lights and electronics when not in use, and supporting sustainable commuting options can also have a lasting impact. By working together, Bowie residents can help protect local parks, waterways, and green spaces while creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable community for future generations. Every small step contributes to making Bowie an even better place to live, work, and play.
The Safety Feature You Probably Don't Think About Until It's Gone

Well-maintained street lights play an important role in keeping Bowie safe and welcoming for everyone. Proper lighting improves visibility for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, helping reduce the risk of accidents at intersections, crosswalks, and neighborhood streets. Bright, functioning street lights can also discourage criminal activity by increasing visibility in public spaces and around homes, parks, and shopping areas.
As summer brings longer evenings filled with walks, bike rides, and community events, residents are encouraged to report street lights that are flickering, damaged, or not working. Prompt repairs help ensure safer travel and a greater sense of security throughout our city. By working together to identify lighting issues, we can all help maintain safer neighborhoods and support a community where everyone feels comfortable traveling after dark.
How to Report a Street Light Outage
