“The path to success is rarely a straight line; it is built on resilience, daily habits, and the courage to embrace challenges.” ~ David Goggins

Bowie Welcomes New City Manager Angel L. Jones
The City of Bowie will welcome Angel L. Jones as its next City Manager, effective July 20, 2026. Selected following a nationwide search, Ms. Jones brings more than 30 years of municipal leadership experience and currently serves as City Manager of Missouri City, Texas. Her career also includes leadership roles in Portsmouth, Virginia; Gaithersburg, Maryland; and Eugene, Oregon. She is also a former Captain in the United States Army Reserve.
As Bowie’s chief executive officer, Ms. Jones will oversee city operations, implement City Council priorities, and help guide the City’s future growth and success.
Ms. Jones succeeds Alfred D. Lott, who retired in February after nine years of dedicated service to Bowie. The City Council expressed its enthusiasm for this new chapter and thanked Assistant City Manager Daniel Mears for providing steady leadership during the transition and helping maintain the high-quality services residents expect.

Chesapeake Bay Adventures Showcases Music Inspired by the Bay

Viewers of Chesapeake Bay Adventures, the Public Access television show hosted by Cindy Freland and filmed at the City of Bowie TV Studio, recently got a glimpse into the power of storytelling through music. Freland, an award-winning author of the Chesapeake Bay Adventure Book Series, 15 children's books about the Chesapeake Bay and special places throughout Maryland, featured songwriter and storyteller Cris Neish.
Based in Annapolis, Neish creates heartfelt music inspired by the Chesapeake Bay, military service, family, faith, and community pride. A retired military professional, he combines traditional storytelling with modern AI-assisted production to create songs that celebrate local heritage and meaningful life experiences.
One featured song reflects the beauty and bounty of the Chesapeake Bay found throughout Freland’s children's book series, connecting readers, listeners, and nature lovers alike.
