Bowie’s New Mayor - Michael Estève
Bowie City Council member Michael Estève will be sworn in as the city’s new mayor next week after earning 50% of the vote in Tuesday’s special election. He defeated eight candidates, including two fellow council members, in a fast-paced race that lasted just over a month.
Estève steps into the role as the city begins budget planning, signaling immediate tough decisions ahead. During his campaign, residents voiced concerns about public safety, development, infrastructure, and overall quality of life. He emphasized transparency and realism, noting that many easy solutions are no longer available.
Estève replaces former Mayor Tim Adams, who now serves on the Prince George’s County Council. With rising costs, staffing shortages, and a vacant city manager position, he says Bowie can maintain its services—but some changes may come at a cost as the city plans for the future.

Water Issues in Bowie: Who to Call and What It Means
The City of Bowie encourages residents to report any water or sewer issues promptly to maintain reliable service. Common concerns include water main breaks, low pressure, discolored water, or sewer problems. Residents can contact the Public Works Department between 7:00am and 3:30pm at 301-809-2344.
For emergencies, such as a water main break, call the Bowie Police Department Call Center at 240-544-5700, where urgent issues will be dispatched to an on-call worker. Non-urgent problems can also be submitted through the City’s online Service Request System for next-business-day response.
Discolored water is often caused by disturbed sediment in the pipes. This can happen during water main breaks, nearby hydrant use for fires or routine flushing, or due to aging cast iron pipes. The discoloration typically comes from iron particles, which may look unappealing and stain clothing but are generally safe to drink.

Big Development News: Kevin Durant’s Group Buys Six Flags Property
Prince George’s County Executive Aisha Braveboy announced that DMV native and NBA star Kevin Durant is part of an investment group that has acquired the former Six Flags America site, signaling a major opportunity for redevelopment in the area.
While details are still emerging, the move has sparked excitement about what could replace the long-standing amusement park. Residents are hopeful the project could bring new businesses, jobs, and experiences to the city.
As plans take shape, all eyes will be on how this high-profile investment helps shape Bowie’s next chapter.
