Spring Forward: Daylight Saving Time Begins Sunday

As winter begins to fade, a familiar seasonal change arrives: the start of Daylight Saving Time. On the second Sunday in March, clocks move forward one hour at 2:00am, giving us longer, brighter evenings.

While losing an hour of sleep can feel like a small sacrifice, many people look forward to the extra daylight after work or school. The shift signals the gradual return of spring, outdoor activities, and warmer days ahead. Originally introduced to make better use of daylight and conserve energy, Daylight Saving Time continues to shape daily routines across much of the country. For many, the time change serves as a reminder that a new season is approaching—bringing with it more sunshine, longer days, and fresh opportunities to enjoy the daylight.

The City of Bowie is inviting residents to help recognize individuals who made a lasting difference in our community. The nomination deadline for the 2026 Bowie Hall of Honor is quickly approaching, and submissions will be accepted through March 6. This special recognition honors Bowie residents whose lives and contributions helped shape the city and positively impact others.

To be eligible, nominees must have been Bowie residents, be deceased for at least one year, and have made a meaningful and lasting contribution to the community. Honorees are remembered for their dedication to service, leadership, and commitment to improving the lives of others in Bowie.

If you know someone whose legacy deserves to be celebrated, now is the time to share their story and help preserve their impact for future generations.

The 5th Annual Health & Wellness Fair, presented by the Greater Suburban Maryland Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., offers a day of health resources, education, and community engagement—just a short drive from Bowie in Landover. Attendees can receive FREE health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, sickle cell disease, mental health, and dental care.

The event will also feature an engaging panel on healthy aging and fun group fitness sessions to keep everyone moving. A lively vendor marketplace will showcase unique items available for purchase. Additional highlights include snack box giveaways (while supplies last), on-site voter registration, and the American Red Cross collecting blood donations. This community-focused event offers valuable wellness resources and activities for all ages.

Save the Date: Woof Wednesday: Bring Your Dog to the Ballgame 🐾⚾Chesapeake Baysox vs Erie SeaWolves - April 8th

Fans can enjoy a special pet-friendly promotion during Woof Wednesday when the Chesapeake Baysox take on the Erie SeaWolves at Prince George's Stadium on April 8th. Dog lovers are invited to bring their leashed and vaccinated dogs to the ballpark for a fun night of baseball and community. It’s the perfect chance for fans to cheer on the Baysox while spending quality time with their four-legged companions. For everyone’s safety, dogs must remain on a leash and owners must show current, valid vaccination tags at the gate prior to entry. Woof Wednesday adds a playful twist to the game-day experience, making it a memorable evening for both baseball fans and their furry friends.
