Quote of the Day

ā€œThis year, don't chase everything—pursue what sets your soul on fire.ā€ ~ Jennifer Lee

Thank You, Mayor Adams—And Looks Ahead to New Leadership

A heartfelt thank you to Mayor Timothy J. Adams, who has resigned as our City of Bowie Mayor following his appointment to serve on the Prince George’s County Council representing District 4. First elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, Mayor Adams has been a visible, engaged, and upbeat presence in our city, championing progress, inclusion, and pride in Bowie.

As he continues his public service at the county level, are grateful for his dedication and the legacy of optimism and service he leaves behind. Now, our community is looking for someone to pick up where he left off—ready to engage residents, listen with intention, and keep the positivity and momentum going in our city.

Interested in becoming the Mayor of Bowie? The Candidate Filing Period for the Special Mayoral Election on April 7, 2026 is February 17 to March 6, 2026.

Love is officially in the Bowie air šŸ’˜

The grocery store flowers are out, the heart-shaped everything has hit the shelves, and couples all over the city are asking the same question: ā€œSo… what are we doing for Valentine’s?ā€

If you’re ready to skip the same old dinner-and-a-movie routine, we’ve got you. Here’s a list of fun, slightly-outside-the-box Valentine’s date ideas for couples —perfect for laughing, reconnecting, and making the kind of memories that last long after the roses fade.

Progressive dessert crawl
Pick three different spots for coffee, sweets, and a late-night treat—no entrĆ©es allowed.

ā€œFirst dateā€ re-do
Recreate your first date—outfit vibe, music, order—then end the night sharing what’s changed since then and what you’re dreaming of next.

Spa night for two
Face masks, foot soaks, big fluffy towels, and a ā€œphones in another roomā€ rule.

Couple’s cooking challenge
Set a $25 budget at the grocery store and cook a 3-course meal together at home.

Love Letter & Dessert Exchange
Each of you writes a handwritten love letter and secretly buys the other’s favorite dessert. Exchange them at the same time and read your letters out loud.

Don’t let Valentine’s Day be the only time that you connect as couple, make date nights a regular occurrence on your calendar.

Save the Date - Community Matters Hosted by Chief Dwayne A. Preston, with special guests City Council Member Wanda Rogers and State's Attorney Tore H. Jackson

Calling Bowie’s Poets: Are You Our Next Poet Laureate?

Love poetry and want to represent the City of Bowie with your words? The City is seeking its next Poet Laureate, an honorary civic role dedicated to celebrating and promoting the literary arts in our community. The Poet Laureate will create original work, perform at City events like BowieFest and Juneteenth, and help lead impactful projects that inspire residents of all ages through poetry, literature, and spoken word.

Applicants must live within the incorporated City of Bowie, be at least 18, and show literary excellence with a body of work and a record of community engagement. The term runs for 15 months, from April 2026 to June 2027, with an annual honorarium of $1,500 (prorated).

Applications are accepted February 2 – March 2 and include writing samples and short narratives about your background and vision as Poet Laureate for Bowie.
