Winter Weather Tips from Bowie Snow Plow Drivers
A significant snowstorm is forecast to hit Bowie and the DMV within the next 24 to 48 hours, bringing several inches of snow, icy roads, and potentially hazardous travel conditions. Residents are urged to prepare now to stay safe and minimize disruption.
Before the storm hits, stock up on essentials like food, water, batteries, and medications. Charge electronic devices and ensure flashlights are ready in case of power outages. Avoid unnecessary travel once snow begins, and park vehicles off main roads to assist snowplows. Insulate pipes to prevent freezing, and keep pets indoors.
Stay informed by monitoring local weather alerts and city updates.
Bowie Regular City Council Meeting - Replay January 20th

Credit: City of Bowie
During the January 20 meeting, Bowie City Council explored several forward-looking initiatives under new business.
The Department of Community Services presented the inaugural āSweet Bowieā honey harvest, produced from a city-maintained beehive. The Financial Advisory Committee shared insights into its mission and future goals to support city budgeting and financial transparency. The Arts Committee proposed establishing a City Poet Laureate, a cultural initiative eligible for Council action.
Council also received updates on the Friendship Aspire Bowie STEM Public Charter School and reviewed a proposal to repurpose the Kenhill Center as a future charter school siteāalso eligible for action. Lastly, the Council discussed the cityās Economic Development Policy and the potential formation of a City Economic Development Corporation, including the option to authorize a contract for consolidating related policy documents.
Coming Soon: A World-Class Sphere Venue Just Minutes from Bowie
Prince Georgeās County is set to welcome the East Coastās first Sphere entertainment venue, bringing a transformative new attraction to National Harborājust 30 minutes from Bowie. The project, announced by County Executive Aisha Braveboy, Governor Wes Moore, Sphere Entertainment Co., and Peterson Companies, marks a major win for the region, with the high-tech venue expected to generate over $1 billion in annual economic impact.
This will be the second Sphere in the U.S. and the first scaled-down version of the Las Vegas original, featuring 6,000 seats and groundbreaking immersive technology. Visitors can expect a 16K LED screen, Sphere Immersive Sound, haptic seating, and 4D effects, along with a striking LED-covered exterior called the Exosphere.
Funded through a mix of public and private investmentāincluding $200 million in incentivesāthe project will create thousands of jobs during and after construction. Its close proximity to Bowie adds another dynamic entertainment draw from our community.

Street Lights Out in Bowie - Hereās How to Report Them
Street lights are essential to safety and quality of life in Bowie. They help drivers see clearly, make streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists, and provide residents with a greater sense of security after dark. Proper lighting also supports neighborhood activity, from evening walks to early morning commutes. When street lights are out, visibility is reduced and safety concerns increase, making it important for residents to report outages so they can be addressed quickly.
