What to Do in Bowie if There’s a Water Main Break

A water main break can disrupt daily life, but knowing what to do helps you stay safe and prepared in Bowie. First, check for official alerts from City of Bowie utilities or Prince George’s County — these agencies will share information about affected areas, estimated repair timelines, and boil water advisories. If you notice low water pressure, discolored water, or no water at all, report it immediately to city services to help them locate and fix the problem quickly.

While the break is being fixed, conserve your stored water for drinking, food preparation, and hygiene. If the city issues a boil water notice, bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for consumption. Avoid laundry and dishwasher use until the issue is resolved to prevent damage to machines.

Stay informed through local news and Bowie social media pages for updates and safety tips throughout the repair process.

Bowie’s Adopted Budget in Brief for FY 2026

The City of Bowie’s FY 2026 Adopted Budget in Brief outlines a comprehensive financial plan totaling approximately $131.5 million, with the General Fund budget set at about $91.1 million, representing a modest increase over the prior year’s funds. This annual budget reflects the city’s priorities in maintaining and enhancing essential municipal services—such as public safety, parks and recreation, infrastructure maintenance, and community programs—while keeping the overall tax rate steady. The Budget in Brief document also provides a clear, resident-friendly overview of revenue sources, spending allocations, and the City’s commitment to fiscal accountability and transparent financial planning as it delivers core services to Bowie’s residents.

How Bowie Used CDBG Funds: Residents Invited to Review and Comment

The City of Bowie will host a Virtual Public Hearing on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. to gather community input on its Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) for FY 2025, as required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The CAPER reviews how Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds were used to support low- and moderate-income residents through programs such as single-family housing rehabilitation, fair housing training, and workforce development.

The draft report will be available for public review January 7 through February 7, 2026, both online and at Bowie City Hall. Residents are encouraged to participate and share feedback.
