Festival of Sleep Day: Press Pause and Rest

Observed on January 3, Festival of Sleep Day is a gentle reminder to slow down in a world that never seems to stop. We rush from one meeting to the next, one obligation to another, always chasing what’s next on the list. Even rest gets postponed.

Sleep often feels optional — something we’ll “catch up on later.” But the truth is, quality sleep is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. It fuels our focus, restores our bodies, steadies our emotions, and helps us show up as our best selves. Festival of Sleep Day invites us to press pause, breathe, and allow ourselves to rest without guilt. Take a nap, turn off notifications, or go to bed early. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is simply get some sleep.

Bowie’s Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Art Contest Honors Dr. King’s Legacy

The City of Bowie’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Art Contest invites students in grades K–12 to honor Dr. King’s legacy through creative expression. This year’s theme encourages young artists to reflect on unity, service, and positive change, using art to share their vision of Dr. King’s enduring dream. Submissions showcase a wide range of creativity and powerful messages inspired by his life and work.

The community is invited to celebrate Bowie’s young artists at the award ceremony on January 17, 2026, where winners will be recognized for their talent and thoughtful interpretations. The ceremony highlights not only artistic achievement, but also the importance of empowering youth voices and continuing Dr. King’s message through creativity and action.
