Be Winter-Ready: Bowie’s Snow Plan and How You Fit In

City of Bowie Duties The City of Bowie handles snow removal on all streets it maintains. How the city responds depends on how much snow has fallen.

Resident Responsibilities

Before Snowfall: Move all vehicles off public streets so snow removal crews can work efficiently.

After Snowfall: Clear snow, sleet, and ice from sidewalks next to your home within 48 hours once the precipitation ends.

Less Than 2 Inches of Snow

When roads become slick, the city treats them with salt and/or sand.

Priority goes to main roads, steep hills, and streets with many intersections.

Flat roads, cul-de-sacs, and streets with fewer intersections are treated only during severe icing.

Some plowing may occur on priority routes if needed.

2 Inches or More of Snow

When snowfall hits two inches, full plowing begins citywide.

Plows start with main roads, then move to hilly areas and collector streets.

During heavy snow, plows stay on main routes until they’re manageable.

After that, they plow residential streets, cul-de-sacs, and flatter roads.

All streets are cleared by the end of operations.

Keep Your Packages Safe: Holiday Tips from Bowie Police

As holiday shopping ramps up, the Bowie Police Department is reminding residents to stay alert and take steps to prevent package theft. With more online deliveries expected, so-called “porch pirates” may be on the lookout for unattended packages.

To protect your deliveries, police recommend the following tips:

  • Schedule deliveries when you’re home, or have items shipped to a secure location.

  • Use tracking tools to monitor package arrivals.

  • Consider installing a doorbell camera or video surveillance system.

  • Request signature confirmation for high-value items.

  • Ask a trusted neighbor to hold packages if you’ll be away.

By staying proactive, residents can enjoy a safer, stress-free holiday season.
