Light Up Bowie! Register Now for the Holiday Decorating Contest

Ready to light up Bowie? Registration is now open for the City of Bowie’s annual Holiday House Decorating Contest, and this is your moment to shine! If your home is bursting with holiday cheer — twinkling lights, glowing inflatables, sparkling wreaths, or a theme that makes the neighborhood smile — the city wants to see it.

To participate, your home must be located within Bowie city limits. Entries are due December 4 at 5:00pm., so don’t wait! Judges will tour the city on December 10 between 6:00pm and 11:00pm., scouting out the most magical displays. Winners will be celebrated at a festive awards ceremony on December 16 at 7:00pm at City Hall.

Bowie Rolls Out Stop-Sign Cameras and New Speeding Penalties

Beginning November 19, 2025, the City of Bowie will roll out a new tiered fine system for automated speed-camera violations, bringing penalties in line with updated state law. Fines will now increase based on how fast a driver exceeds the posted limit: $40 for 12–15 mph over, $70 for 16–19 mph, $120 for 20–29 mph, $230 for 30–39 mph, and $425 for going 40 mph or more over. Bowie’s Safe Speed program operates cameras in school zones during school hours and in residential areas around the clock. When a violation is detected, the system captures a photo of the license plate and mails a citation to the vehicle’s owner.

At the same time, Bowie Police are piloting a new AI-powered stop-sign camera system that records drivers who fail to make a complete stop, issuing civil citations using the same photo-based process.

Tats for Tatas: A Bowie Tattoo Shop Turns Scars into Art

Pretty in Ink, a Bowie studio known for its artistry and heart, made a powerful impact this October with its Tats for Tatas campaign. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the studio offered free scar-cover tattoos to breast cancer survivors—giving women a chance to reclaim their confidence, celebrate their strength, and transform difficult memories into meaningful art.

Survivors were invited to work with the studio’s skilled artists to design custom pieces that honored their journey. From delicate florals to bold symbols of resilience, each tattoo told a story of survival, hope, and healing.

County and State - Federal Government Shutdown Resources

As one of the closest jurisdictions to Washington, D.C., Prince George’s County is home to thousands of federal employees and contractors.
