🚧 Ever Wonder What All That Construction Is About in Bowie?
You can’t miss the construction that has gone from 301, close to Rips all the way down to about Laurel Bowie Road. The City of Bowie is moving forward with a range of important transportation projects aimed at enhancing safety, accessibility, and the overall travel experience for residents. These projects, managed by city, county, state, and regional partners, represent a strong commitment to modern, sustainable infrastructure.
The Bowie Heritage Trail, led by the City, continues to expand pedestrian and bicycle connections throughout the community, linking neighborhoods, parks, and historic sites. The WB&A Spur Trail and Patuxent River Bridge Crossing, managed by M-NCPPC, will further improve regional trail connectivity. Meanwhile, the Chestnut Avenue Bridge Replacement (County) is progressing to ensure safer travel for drivers and pedestrians.
The State Highway Administration (SHA) is making strides on multiple corridors, including the MD Route 197 North and South Landscaping/Streetscape projects, MD Route 450 (Annapolis Road), and MD Route 3 improvements. These efforts will upgrade safety, traffic flow, and beautification along key routes.
Additional projects, such as Race Track Road Reconstruction (County) and the Melford-Kenilworth Sidewalk Extension (Developer), will enhance connectivity and walkability citywide.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate Bowie’s ongoing dedication to creating a safer, more connected, and more attractive transportation network for everyone.

County and State - Federal Government Shutdown Resources
As one of the closest jurisdictions to Washington, D.C., Prince George’s County is home to thousands of federal employees and contractors. In light of the current challenges facing the federal government, County officials are reaffirming their commitment to supporting local residents impacted by any disruptions.
Leadership in the County recognizes the critical role federal workers play in the region and is focused on maintaining residents' quality of life during this uncertain time. Efforts are underway to coordinate closely with state and federal partners to provide timely resources, services, and updates.
With a unified approach, Prince George’s County is working to ensure that families have the support they need, standing together as “One County United.”
