Support the Back 2 School Supply Collection at MWBC Shop Local @ Bowie Town Center August 4 - 14

The MWBC Shop Local marketplace in Bowie Town Center is located at 15402 B Emerald Way in Bowie Town Center. There are more than 70 shops in this retail incubator that supports women‑led and early‑stage entrepreneurs.

Protect Your Pet: Bowie Hosts Drive-Thru Microchip Event

On August 20, Bowie City Hall will host a free Drive-Thru Microchip Clinic for dogs from 5:00pm to 7:30 p.m., offering 100 free microchips to Prince George’s County residents. Hosted in collaboration with Prince George’s County Council Member Ingrid Watson, the County’s Animal Services Division, and the Pet Unity Project, the event is designed to make pet safety easy and accessible—rain or shine. Pre-registration is encouraged, and proof of residency is required.

Microchipping provides a simple, safe way to help reunite lost pets with their owners. The tiny device, implanted just beneath the skin, stores a unique ID number linked to the owner’s contact information. It significantly increases the chances of finding a lost dog and offers lasting peace of mind for pet owners.

Maryland’s Tax‑Free Shopping Week Returns

Maryland’s Tax‑Free Week Returns August 10–16, 2025 Marylanders: mark your calendars! Maryland’s annual Shop Maryland Tax‑Free Week runs from Sunday, August 10 through Saturday, August 16, offering a six‑day break from the state’s 6 percent sales tax on select back‑to‑school items.

During this period, shoppers can purchase clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item tax‑free. That includes everyday apparel such as sweaters, shirts, jeans, dresses, shoes, and boots. Additionally, the first $40 of each backpack or bookbag purchase is exempt from sales tax—no cap on the number of items you can buy.

Excluded from the exemption are accessories (such as jewelry, handbags, umbrellas), athletic or protective gear (for example, cleats or steel‑toe boots), alteration services, and other school supplies.

Whether shopping in person or online (if paid for and shipped during the week), this is a prime opportunity to stock up on essentials—just time your purchases carefully and double‑check your items fall within the qualifying limits.
