Shaping Our Future: Join the Environmental Survey & Engagement Session

Bowie is charting a greener future—and residents are invited to help shape it. As the city wraps up its current Sustainability and Climate Action Plans, officials are crafting a new Environmental Action Plan (EAP) to guide environmental policies for the next decade. To ensure community voices are heard, the city has launched a brief survey, available at www.surveymonkey.com/r/BowieEAP, which takes less than five minutes to complete.

Additionally, a public engagement session is scheduled for May 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kenhill Center, offering residents a chance to discuss priorities and provide feedback in person. For more information, contact Sustainability Manager Ashleigh Diaz at [email protected] or call 301-809-3044. This initiative is a pivotal step in Bowie's commitment to a sustainable and resilient future.

Speed Camera Relocations in Bowie Begin June 2

Beginning June 2, 2025, the Bowie Police Department will relocate three speed cameras as part of the Safe Speed Camera Program. Devices currently located on Old Stage Road, Brunswick Lane, and Dolphin Way will be moved to eastbound Northview Drive, eastbound Millstream Drive, and northbound Mitchellville Road. Please note: there will be no grace period—civil citations will be issued immediately.

The Safe Speed Program plays a vital role in reducing speeding and vehicle crashes while protecting pedestrians and bicyclists. These cameras are not meant to generate revenue but to encourage safer driving habits. As driver behavior improves, the number of violations is expected to decline.

Love Pickleball? Share Your Thoughts on New Court Plans in Bowie

The Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking community input on a proposal to permanently convert the tennis courts at Mitchellville South Park into dedicated pickleball courts. This initiative reflects the growing popularity of pickleball and aims to enhance recreational offerings in the area. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts by completing a brief online survey by May 25.

Mitchellville South Park, located at 15540 Peach Walker Drive in Bowie, currently features tennis courts that have been adapted for both tennis and pickleball play. The proposed conversion would establish permanent pickleball courts, providing a dedicated space for enthusiasts of the sport.

Community feedback is vital to ensure that the park's amenities align with residents' recreational needs and preferences. For more information and to participate in the survey, please visit the City of Bowie's official website.
