“I hope you realise that every day is a fresh start for you. That every sunrise is a new chapter in your life waiting to be written.” ~ Juansen Dizon

Smart Ways Bowie Locals Can Handle Spring Allergies
If you're hiding from the cherry blossoms instead of heading down to D.C. to see the them this spring, you're not alone. Seasonal allergies in Bowie can turn a walk in the park into a sniffly, sneezy, itchy eyes ordeal. But with a little preparation, you can enjoy the season without retreating indoors.
Start by checking local pollen forecasts and planning outdoor activities when counts are low—early mornings or right after rain are best. Keep windows and car vents closed during peak pollen times, usually mid-morning and early evening, and use HEPA filters and air purifiers at home. After being outside, change clothes, wash your hands, and shower to remove lingering pollen.
Over-the-counter antihistamines, decongestants, and nasal sprays can offer relief, but if symptoms persist, consider visiting a specialist. Don’t forget that pets can carry pollen indoors on their fur, so a quick wipe-down after walks can help too.
Spring in Bowie is beautiful—don’t let allergies keep you from enjoying it. With these simple strategies, you might even brave a cherry blossom selfie next year.
Step Up for a Cause: Walk Against Domestic Violence in Bowie April 26th

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10:00am to 1:00pm, Allen Pond Park in Bowie will host the Walk to End Domestic Violence, organized by the City of Bowie's Community Outreach Committee. This event aims to raise awareness and support for survivors of domestic abuse.
Participants are encouraged to wear purple, symbolizing unity in the fight against domestic violence, and to bring donations of personal hygiene and beauty products. These items will be assembled into "run and go" bags for victims in crisis situations. City of Bowie
The walk offers an opportunity for community members to stand together, show solidarity, and contribute to a meaningful cause. Whether you're walking solo or with a group, your presence helps amplify the message that domestic violence has no place in our community.
Lend a Hand, Lift a Heart: Volunteer Opportunities in Bowie
National Volunteer Week is April 27 through May 4. In Bowie giving back is more than a gesture—it’s a way of life. Across the city, volunteers are the heartbeat of countless programs, proving that big change often starts with small acts of kindness. Whether you're tutoring a student, planting trees, or helping a neighbor in need, each moment of service helps weave a stronger, more compassionate community.
The city offers diverse volunteer opportunities for all ages and interests. Join environmental clean-up efforts, assist at local shelters, or support events through Bowie's Youth and Senior Services. Even one hour a week can make a real difference.
Volunteering isn't just about helping others—it’s also a powerful way to grow personally, build friendships, and reconnect with the spirit of community. As you give your time, you’ll gain something too: a deeper sense of purpose and pride in the place you call home.
Get involved today.

PGPD Warns Residents About Bank Text Scam in Prince George’s County
The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) is alerting residents to a growing text message scam targeting local bank customers. Scammers are sending fraudulent texts that appear to come from legitimate banks, asking recipients to verify account information or report suspicious activity. Once individuals click the link or respond, scammers attempt to steal personal and financial data.
PGPD advises residents to avoid clicking on suspicious links, and to contact their bank directly if they receive any unexpected messages. Banks will never request sensitive information through text messages.
Anyone who believes they may have fallen victim to this scam is encouraged to report it to police and contact their financial institution immediately. PGPD is working to raise awareness and prevent further incidents throughout the county.
Stay vigilant, and help spread the word to protect others in the community.
