Understanding the Bowie’s Role in Prince George’s County Development Projects

Development projects in Prince George’s County are primarily overseen by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and the Prince George’s County Council. Bowie plays an advisory role in the process, with specific exceptions. The County Council has granted the City authority to handle variance and departure requests from the County’s Zoning Ordinance. Additionally, Bowie manages matters related to Alternative Compliance under the County’s Landscape Manual, nonconforming uses, minor changes to special exception site plans, and some detailed site plans.

13-Month Closure of Chestnut Avenue in Bowie Planned for Bridge Replacement

Prince George’s County is set to close a section of Chestnut Avenue in Old Town Bowie for approximately 13 months to facilitate the replacement of a small bridge. The closure will begin today, December 30th, and will affect the stretch between Chestnut Lane and Fletchertown Road. Residents seeking more information about the project can contact the County at 301-883-5642.
