Looking Back on 2024: Did you make it count?

As the final days of 2024 tick away, it’s hard not to pause and reflect on the journey we’ve all taken this year. The moments of triumph, the lessons learned through challenges, and the little joys that made it all worthwhile – they’ve shaped us in ways we never imagined.

But as the calendar flips to a new year, a thought lingers: if you could do it all over again, what would you do differently? Would you spend more time with loved ones, take that leap of faith, would you get out and about in Bowie more, or savor the present instead of rushing through the day-to-day?

Reflection doesn’t mean regret; it’s a reminder that each moment is an opportunity to grow. Residents and City Share Snow Removal Duties in Bowie

Winter is here and we just may get some significant snow in Bowie. The City of Bowie is responsible for clearing snow from public streets it maintains, prioritizing main roads and steep areas during winter storms. Snow accumulation under two inches is addressed with treatments like salting and sanding, while two inches or more triggers citywide plowing. Residents must move vehicles off streets for effective plowing and clear sidewalks within 48 hours after precipitation ends.

Weaving Wonders: Don’t Miss the Regional Textile Showcase

The Montpelier House Museum in Laurel is currently hosting the Regional Textile Showcase, a celebration of fiber artistry running through December 23, 2024. Open from 10:00am to 4:00pm, Thursday through Monday, this free event features a diverse array of textile creations by local artists.

Visitors can explore traditional quilts, such as those crafted by members of the Quilters Guild, known for preserving African American quilting traditions. The showcase also includes contemporary textile art, embroidery, rug hooking, felting, fabric painting, weaving, beading, needlepoint, crocheting, and knitting.

The Montpelier House Museum, located at 9650 Muirkirk Road, offers this showcase as an opportunity to appreciate the rich textile heritage and innovative artistry of the region. Whether you're a seasoned fiber artist or new to the world of textiles, the exhibit provides an inspiring journey through the threads of local culture.
