🌿 25 Acts of Green: Simple Ways to Go Sustainable at Home in Bowie 🌿
Going green doesn’t have to be overwhelming—small steps at home can make a big difference! Here are 25 sustainable practices to adopt in Bowie, Maryland, to help the environment.
Start with energy savings: switch to LED bulbs, unplug electronics when not in use, and consider a programmable thermostat. Reduce water waste by fixing leaks, installing low-flow fixtures, and collecting rainwater for outdoor plants.
In your kitchen, compost food scraps, use reusable containers, and shop locally at Bowie Farmers Market to cut down on food miles. Go paperless for bills, and switch to cloth napkins instead of disposable ones.
Recycle right—know Bowie’s recycling guidelines—and donate unwanted items to local thrift stores. Plant native species in your yard to support pollinators, and skip harsh chemicals in favor of natural cleaners.
Together, these small actions create a big impact! 🌎

Drive Sober, Stay Safe: National Impaired Driving Prevention Month
December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In Bowie, local initiatives are in place to combat impaired driving. Bowie State University's Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Prevention Center offers resources and programs aimed at educating students and the community about the risks associated with substance use and impaired driving.
Additionally, the Maryland Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Office collaborates with local law enforcement agencies to conduct sobriety checkpoints and public awareness campaigns, especially during the holiday season when impaired driving incidents tend to increase.
Residents are encouraged to utilize alternative transportation options such as ride-sharing services, public transportation, or designated drivers if they plan to consume alcohol. By making responsible choices, the Bowie community can contribute to safer roads and help prevent the tragedies caused by impaired driving.

Disability Services' 50th Anniversary Creative Cookies
🎉 Mark your calendars, Bowie! On December 15, 2024, the Lake Arbor Community Center will transform into a wonderland of sweet creativity for the 50th Anniversary Creative Cookies event, hosted by Disability Services. This isn’t just any bake-off—it’s a celebration of inclusion, creativity, and community.
