Shine Bright! Enter Bowie’s Festive Decorating Competition

Bowie is twinkling brighter than ever with the return of the city’s Holiday House Decorating Contest! Each December, residents transform their homes into dazzling displays of holiday cheer, showcasing creative themes, sparkling lights, and festive décor.

Participants compete for bragging rights and prizes, with prizes are awarded in four categories:

  • Pirmohamed Family Award: $100 for incorporating methods that involve children and family interaction

  • Mateik-Pitts Family Award: $100 for best first-time entries

  • Best of Bowie Awards: White House Ornament

  • Bowie Spirit Awards: Handmade, locally crafted candle

Judges will tour the city soon, scoring homes on originality and holiday spirit. Winners will be announced later this month, but in Bowie, everyone wins when the holiday magic is this bright!

Ready to compete? Grab your lights and join the fun—Bowie’s festive spirit awaits!

PGCPS Launches Mental Health Initiatives with $25 Million Grant

Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) recently received a $25 million grant aimed at expanding mental health services for students, sparking optimism across the community. The funding, awarded by the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission, will support 18 organizations through the Consortium on Coordinated Community Supports. These organizations will collaborate with PGCPS to bolster existing services, focusing on therapy, substance use prevention, and other critical areas.

The initiative includes innovative approaches like Uneo Health’s app, providing high schoolers with self-care tools, and Hazel Health’s teletherapy available district-wide. These resources aim to reduce barriers such as transportation, ensuring equitable access to care.

Parents and educators hope this investment will make mental health care routine and accessible, fostering better academic performance and overall student well-being. Services are set to launch in the coming months.
