No Complain November: Embracing Gratitude in Bowie

No Complain November is a simple yet transformative challenge to go an entire month without complaining. It encourages us to shift our mindset, focusing less on what's wrong and more on what's right. Complaining often comes naturally, but it can trap us in negativity. This month offers an opportunity to break that habit and embrace gratitude instead.
When tempted to complain, pause and reflect: what can you be grateful for in this moment? For example, instead of lamenting a busy schedule, appreciate the opportunities that keep life vibrant. On chilly mornings, savor a warm beverage from your favorite Bowie coffee shop or admire the seasonal fall colors lining one of Bowie’s trails.
Gratitude doesn’t deny challenges; it simply reminds us of the blessings that coexist with them. As you practice this shift, you'll notice an improvement in your mood, relationships, and perspective. This November, let gratitude guide you toward a more positive and fulfilling outlook on life.
What are you grateful for?
Maryland Leads Nation in Emission Cuts, Eyes Building Sector for Next Steps
Maryland has emerged as a national leader in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, cutting overall emissions by 36% and per capita emissions by 42% between 2005 and 2022. This success stems from state policies, participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), and significant progress in the electric power sector, where emissions dropped 66%. However, the building sector lags, with commercial building emissions rising 23% due to fossil fuel use. Maryland is addressing this through Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) aimed at net-zero emissions by 2040. Nationally, U.S. emissions declined by 15%, but some states increased emissions, driven by oil and gas production. A related study highlights buildings' growing role in smog pollution, which poses serious public health risks in Maryland’s urban areas.
