From Ideas to Action: Make a Difference in Bowie by Serving on a City Committee
Resident participation in Bowie, Maryland’s city committees is a cornerstone of vibrant and responsive local governance. When residents join these committees, they have the unique opportunity to influence decisions, shape policies, and contribute to Bowie's long-term development. Each committee serves a distinct role, from public safety to the arts, ensuring that a wide range of voices and perspectives are represented in city planning and activities.
Bowie has 16 committees open for resident involvement:
1. Administrative Review Board
2. Advisory Planning Board
3. Arts Committee
4. Bowie Education Committee
5. Community Outreach Committee
6. Community Recreation Committee
7. Diversity Committee
8. Economic Development Committee
9. Environmental Advisory Committee
10. Ethics Commission
11. Financial Advisory Committee
12. Green Team Executive Committee
13. Information Technology Committee
14. Public Safety Committee
15. Senior Citizen’s Committee
16. Youth Advisory Committee
Joining one of these committees allows residents to directly impact areas they care about, from environmental initiatives to community safety and cultural enrichment. This participation ensures that Bowie evolves in a way that reflects the needs and aspirations of all its residents, fostering a stronger, more inclusive community.
Bowie’s Annual Leaf Collection Program is Underway - See the Schedule
Bowie is underway with its annual leaf collection program, running from early November through mid-December. During this period, residents can have their fallen leaves picked up directly from the curb, making seasonal yard maintenance easier. Collection schedules are organized by neighborhood, with crews making multiple passes to ensure timely pickup for all. To participate, residents are asked to rake leaves to the curb but keep them off streets and sidewalks for safety and ease of collection. Leaf bags can also be used and will be collected during regular yard waste pickups. This eco-friendly initiative keeps Bowie clean and reduces the impact of decaying leaves on stormwater drains.
See full schedules and guidelines are available on the City of Bowie’s website.

Bowie Hosts Annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Market on November 16
The City of Bowie Arts Committee is gearing up for its annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Market on November 16 from 9:00am - 2:00pm, a festive event that brings together local artisans and crafters at the Bowie Senior Center.
Visitors can explore an array of unique, handcrafted items made from materials like fiber, glass, wood, textiles, jewelry, and more. With a diverse selection of fine arts and crafts, attendees are bound to find one-of-a-kind gifts and decorative pieces just in time for the holiday season.
Admission to the market is free, and people of all ages are welcome to browse, shop, and support the artists. In addition to promoting local crafts, the event has a charitable angle: proceeds from vendor fees will benefit the City of Bowie Arts Scholarship program, which supports high school seniors planning to pursue art-related degrees in college.
