Bowie’s Guide to Emergency Preparedness: What You Need to Know

We don’t have a crystal ball, can’t predict the weather and can never be too prepared for an emergency.
Emergency preparedness is essential for all Bowie residents to ensure safety during unexpected events. The city encourages everyone to create a family emergency plan that includes how to communicate, where to meet, and what to do in various scenarios like severe weather, power outages, or local evacuations. Building an emergency kit is also crucial—include items such as water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, and important documents.
The City of Bowie provides local resources and emergency alerts through the Alert Bowie system, which keeps residents informed about weather warnings, road closures, and other urgent updates. Sign up for alerts at the City of Bowie’s website. Regularly reviewing your plan and updating your supplies can make a significant difference in ensuring your family’s safety and readiness during emergencies. Stay prepared, stay informed, and stay safe!
From making a plan, building a kit, staying informed and training, The City of Bowie offers a wealth of information for emergency preparedness.
Go Green and Save Green: Bowie’s Lawn Care Rebate Program

Bowie homeowners can now keep their lawns green while going green themselves, thanks to the City of Bowie’s Lawn Care Rebate Program! The City is offering rebates ranging from $25 to $50 for the purchase of electric lawn equipment, including mowers, weed whackers, leaf blowers, and hedge trimmers. It’s a great way to upgrade to quieter, cleaner tools that are better for the environment.
Why switch? Electric lawn equipment produces zero emissions, reduces noise, and requires less maintenance—making lawn care easier and more sustainable. To claim your rebate, just bring your purchase receipt and proof of Bowie residency to City Hall. Not only do you save money, but you also help promote a healthier community by reducing air pollution!
For more information, visit www.cityofbowie.org/lawncarerebates. Make the switch today, and let’s keep Bowie beautiful, one electric lawn tool at a time!

Shop Local, Eat Fresh: The Bowie’s Farmers Market
The Bowie, Maryland Wednesday Farmers Market is more than just a place to shop—it’s a community hub offering fresh, locally-grown produce and homemade goods. Held weekly at the Bowie High School parking lot from May through October, the market supports local farmers and small businesses, allowing residents to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, baked goods, and more directly from the source.
Shopping at the market promotes healthy eating, with seasonal options that are often more nutrient-rich than store-bought produce. It’s also a great way to reduce your carbon footprint, as items are sourced locally, minimizing transportation emissions. Plus, the friendly atmosphere makes it a perfect spot to meet neighbors and discover unique products. Supporting the market helps sustain local agriculture, making every purchase a boost for Bowie’s economy and community.
The Old Town Bowie Farmers’ Market and Food Trucks is nearing the end which is October 30th. Be sure to enjoy the event before the end.
