Take Charge of Your Future: Financial Planning Month Starts Now
October is Financial Planning Month—a perfect time to review your financial goals and create a solid strategy for your future. This month emphasizes the importance of taking charge of your financial health, whether it's budgeting, managing debt, or planning for retirement. Setting clear financial goals can help alleviate stress and build a secure future. Consider working with a financial advisor to tailor a plan that fits your needs. Here are five financial planning tips to get started:
1. Create a Budget: Track income and expenses to understand your spending habits.
2. Establish an Emergency Fund: Save at least 3-6 months of expenses.
3. Pay Off High-Interest Debt: Prioritize debts with the highest interest rates.
4. Invest Early: The sooner you start, the more your money can grow.
5. Review and Adjust Regularly: Revisit your plan to stay on track.
These strategies lay a strong foundation for financial success!
“Keeping The Dream Alive” Art Contest Now Open for K-12 Students

The City of Bowie Diversity Committee invites students in grades K-12 to participate in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Art Contest, celebrating the impact of his legacy. This year’s theme, “Keeping The Dream Alive,” encourages young artists to express how Dr. King’s vision continues to inspire change. Whether through visual arts like paintings or digital designs, or performing arts like dance or spoken word, students have the opportunity to bring Dr. King’s message to life. All entries must be submitted online by December 5 at 5 p.m. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this inspiring tradition! For more information and submission guidelines, visit www.cityofbowie.org/mlk. Let your creativity shine and help keep Dr. King’s dream alive!

PGPD Warns Residents of Fake Officer Phone Scam

The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) is warning residents about a phone scam where callers impersonate officers to steal money or personal information. Scammers use software to display a fake PGPD or county government number on caller ID, making the call seem legitimate. They falsely claim the recipient has an open arrest warrant or legal issue and demand sensitive details like social security numbers or money transfers to resolve the matter. One victim reportedly lost thousands of dollars. Authorities emphasize that PGPD will never ask for private information or money over the phone. Residents are urged to verify suspicious calls directly with the department and share this warning to prevent further incidents.
